Propagation
The best time to Propagate perennials are during Spring and Fall, when the plants are emerging from dormancy or about to die back to the ground for winter. 5 Easy Steps
STEP 1: Slice through the plant sections with a sharp spade deep enough to reach the plant roots
STEP 2: Lift sections, keeping as much soil around the roots as you can
STEP 3: Gently pull apart into single plants, making sure each piece is supplied with roots and greenery. NOTE: Keep divisions large enough so they fill out fast
STEP 4: Plant at the same height as they were growing previously
STEP 5: Spread approximately a 2-inch layer of organic mulch around the new plants, and water them well

How To Care For Your Hydroseeding
Seed Establishment Guidelines and Tips
1. Adequate moisture is key when establishing Turf Grass:
Light frequent watering 2-3 times a day is crucial the first 3 weeks. Once the turf begins to establish and mature then the intervals between watering can be lengthened and the amount applied at any one time can be increased. Watering at night is not recommended.
2. Mowing the Turf for the First Time:
Turf should be approximately 3" in height. The frequency of mowing is very important in establishing a nice dense turf. Always make sure that your mower blade is sharp. A dull blade rips and shreds the grass instead of cutting it - seedlings can actually be torn from the soil.
3. Activity:
Too much activity on your newly seeded lawn can interfere with seed germination. For the first 2-3 weeks you should limit your use of the lawn. Wear and tear by people, pets, and toys can cause ruts and holes that could damage the terrain and cause drainage problems.
4. Fertilizer Guidelines
Spring Seeding April (seed and 18-24-12 Starter) Late May-Early June (24-5-11 Fertilizer) Mid September (18-2-3 Weed & Feed) October-November (18-2-18 Fall & Winter)
Fall Seeding Feb-Mid April (19-3-7 PRE-M prevents weeds) May-Mid June (18-2-3 Weed & Feed) September (Seed and 18-4-12 Starter) November (18-2-18 Fall & Winter)
It takes time and care to establish a nice turf, Good Luck! Please call the staff at Reliable Landscaping if you need further assistance!

How to care for your new sod
Reliable Landscaping has over 20 years of experience in your local area. We would like to share some of our knowledge with you. Several factors are essential in helping you establish a beautiful and healthy lawn.
Installation Is is important that you lay your sod as soon as possible. Sod is perishable and will deteriorate quickly. Sod left tightly rolled and stacked on pallets will steam, smell, and discolor in warm weather. If for any reason you are unable to lay your sod immediately, make sure to take it off the pallet and let it get air. Do not cover up the sod.
Watering Once sod has been installed, you should begin watering immediately. Water your new lawn everyday for the first two weeks in half hour cycles twice a day. Once the sod begins to establish and matures, then the intervals between watering can be lengthened and the amount applied at any one time can be increased. Watering at night is NOT recommended. Early morning before the sun rises or after dusk are ideal times to water your lawn. Keep your lawn moist but do not over-water.
Mowing Wait to cut your new lawn for about 4 to 6 weeks. Always make sure your mower blade is sharp and set to at least three inches high to avoid root damage and subsequent browning. Keep in mind that some areas may not be rooted yet, so take it slow. Keep grass clippings and leaves off new lawns for the first year. Do not water your lawn the day before the first cut.
Activity Too much activity on your newly sodded lawn can interfere with seed germination. For the first 2 to 3 weeks you should limit your use of the newly sodded lawn. Wear and tear by people, pets, and toys can cause ruts and holes that could damage the terrain.
Fertilizer You should fertilize your lawn one month after installation. Use an equal increment granulated fertilizer such as 12-12-12 or 13-13-13. Your lawn should be fertilized once a month except in the hotter months such as July or August. Always water your lawn after fertilizing. In October you should be getting your lawn ready for the winter months ahead. We recommend a 5-20-20 granulated fertilizer. Remember, spring and fall are the times to treat for crabgrass, and use a weed and feed in May for broad leaf weeds. You should treat for grubs twice a year.
It takes a lot of time and care to establish a nice lawn. Good luck!
Sod Fertilizing Recommendations
| April |
Treat crabgrass and grub control plus apply 10-10-10, 12-12-12, or 13-13-13 fertilizer |
| May |
Apply week control for broad leaf weeds plus 10-10-10, 12-12-12, or 13-13-13 fertilizer |
| June |
Apply grub control plus 10-10-10, 12-12-12, or 13-13-13 fertilizer |
| July |
Apply 10-10-10, 12-12-12, or 13-13-13 fertilizer |
| August |
No application during extreme heat |
| September (end) |
Apply weed control for broad leaf weeds plus 10-10-10, 12-12-12, or 13-13-13 fertilizer |
| October (end) |
Prepare your lawn for winter by applying winterizing fertilizer, 5-20-20 or 6-24-24 |
Notes:
- Always use an equal increment granualated fertilizer (establishes strong grass root growth & thickens), not spray on
- Never put down grass seed at the same time as weed control for broad leaf weeds is applied (it will kill the grass seeds)
- Seeding may be done at the same time fertilizer is applied
- Never use a high nitrogen (first number listed) fertilizer
